In our myriad adventures through distant lands, my fascination for the intricate tapestry of nature’s bounty extended beyond the realm of foliage and fantastical landscapes. The culinary traditions of these far-flung cultures captured my fascination too:
A vibrant, long purple red pepper grew in the Fen´s fertile marshes. As the pepper dried, its hues transformed, taking on a radiant orange glow, reminiscent of smoldering embers. These are known as Dragonpeppers, both for their fiery tones and taste.
This night at the Shroom and Gloom we were treated to exotic delicacies inspired by these spicy peppers. The Dragonfire Sausages are curated using a mixture of fen-lizard meat, exotic spices and crushed Dragonpeppers, which lend them their exotic purple color. They are matured in a string alongside dragonpeppers, which makes the sausages spicier, and in turn the peppers absorb some of the flavor from the sausages. They are usually served grilled alongside the peppers with slices of Dragonpepper ash cheese, a strong spicy cheese with a crust of dragonpepper ashes, which lends them their characteristically ebony smoky crust and its deep golden color.
I was glad to have a glass of fenfruit at hand, this was going to be one fiery meal…
