Enchantment: Wizard of Oz – August 2023
Aug 11th to Sept 2nd
It’s a privilege to be able to participate in a theme like the Wizard of Oz and go back in time to dream up designs based on inspiration. I grew up on the original movie with Judy Garland and seen many times the old black and white version and the later, the colourized one. The storyline, characters and the film sets were pure magic growing up. So for this release, I chose the scene where the characters transition from the forest path to the poppy fields set up by the Wicked Witch we all know too well. The poppy field Dorothy enters is soothing to her, smells delightful and inevitably puts her to sleep as part of a nefarious plan. The poppies convey imagination and pleasure but also balanced by the idea of sleep and death. For this I decided to create 3 sections, the forest, a definitive gateway and the stand alone fields. The perfect set for setting up an organic area to do photography or just have as an outdoor setup. To match there are 8 poppy field patches – each with tiny poppy details.
